AFA Frontier-
As Chair of Government Affairs for our MEC, I’m honored to represent your interests on legislative and
regulatory matters that affect our profession, our airline, and the future of aviation. Our work ensures your voice is heard at every level of government—from local advocacy to federal policymaking. Whether it’s protecting our rights, promoting aviation safety, or strengthening our industry, we are committed to advancing policies that support both flight attendants and the traveling public.

In January of 2025, we presented our organizational priorities to members of Congress. These priorities
reflect the most pressing safety, security, and human rights issues that demand legislative attention and action. Currently, we are working to address several critical issues. The legislation mentioned below pertains to bills introduced during the 118th Congress. One major concern is the dangers of contaminated bleed air on all aircraft except the Boeing 787. To address this, the Safe Air on Airplanes Act was introduced by Representatives Maxwell Frost (D-FL), Mike Lawler (R-NY), and John Garamendi (D-CA). Other significant legislative efforts include proposals to close safety and security loopholes in scheduled charter flights, and to address the increasing issue of disruptive passengers through the Protection from Abusive Passengers Act, introduced by Eric Swalwell (D-CA). There is also a focus on ensuring safe evacuations in today’s cabin environments through the Emergency Vacating of Aircraft Cabin Act, introduced by Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).
 

Additional aviation safety priorities include reducing turbulence-related injuries, guaranteeing a seat and proper safety restraint for every passenger, and addressing the health impacts of radiation exposure by promoting better education and notification for crew and passengers. We also support legislation to implement the 2Hot2Cold initiative, which would establish a standard for aircraft cabin temperatures. Beyond aviation-specific concerns, we advocate for maintaining two pilots in the flight deck, increasing oversight of CLEAR to uphold airport security, and ensuring that appropriated funding for air traffic control modernization is implemented without privatization. Finally, our broader legislative priorities include efforts to protect and expand Social Security, defend voting rights, and uphold workers’ rights, healthcare rights, and human rights for all.
